Lube Review: WET Silk

Without a high-quality, hybrid lube on hand, do you dry up like a plum under a heat lamp during hot dates? Don’t reluctantly morph into a prude just ‘cause you’re a little pruney in places.

Follow my lead and hella-hydrate with the newest and most luxurious hybrid lube on the market, WET Silk!

WET Silk may be a mutt (meaning it is a meld of water-based and silicone-based lubes) but just like a mixed-breed pup from the pound, it’s got a lot of long-lasting love to offer. Is this amalgam of ingredients compatible with latex and non-latex safer sex barriers like condoms and oral dams? You bet cha. Is this frosted, friction-reducing formula usable with silicone sex toys? Absolutely!

Visually, WET Silk luxury lubricant resembles natural vaginal discharge, grool, seminal fluids or even congealed sausage gravy. You may be familiar with a similar looking lube called Liquid Silk which is no longer available for sale or purchase in the USA. Bad Dragon Cum Lube also bears a strong resemblance. Whatever it reminds you of, I assure you it’s a blast to put these pearly drops on her buttermilk biscuits!

It’s ultra-thick, creamy, white, opaque and takes a considerable amount of oomph to squeeze out. Think back to smacking the bottom of a bottle of deep conditioner or intensive hair masque which has been stored upside down for weeks. And, sure enough, this strange, milky goop locks in moisture like it’s Jergens for your vajayjay.

Although prior application wasn’t a cinch, removal afterwards was a breeze compared to more water-resistant lube formulas (both from my skin and from my sex toys). A few spritzes of Pjur MedClean and we were instantly as fresh, soft and silky as a daisy’s petals.

This satiny sex lube feels buttery and savory, not sticky or tacky. It lasted as you’d expect, longer than traditional water-based lubes like WET Original but not as long as pure silicone lubes, like WET Platinum.

After the action subsides, alcohol makes the water evaporate while leaving the skin-conditioning silicone emollients behind. It then turns to a what the WET brand describes as a, “powdery finish,” which is pretty darn pleasant, I must say.

Ingredients: Water, Dimethicone, PEG-6, Isopropyl Palmitate, Propylene Glycol, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Glyceryl Caprylate, Methylpropanediol, Hydroxyethyl Cellulose, Cetearyl Alcohol, Sorbitan Stearate, Polysorbate 80

Advertised as a glycerin-free formula, this is misleading in a sense. Why? Technically, there are seven other sugar-filled culprits lurking amongst these otherwise vagina, anus, barrier and sex toy-friendly personal lubricant. These yeast feeders are: cellulose, glycol, methylpropanediol, glyceryl (2 types), sorbate and sorbitan.

Whew. Thank goodness WET threw in some warriors in the crusade against candida to help us out. Caprylhydroxamic acid is an amino acid derived from coconut oil and it’s widely used as a strong and natural anti-fungal. As is isopropyl palmitate, a palm oil derivative which has anti-static properties to boot.

Overall Rating: 4 Stars

Final Verdict:

WET Silk personal lubricant is a multipurpose, hybrid lube made for safer sex and masturbation with sex toys. Despite the seven added sugars, it made my skin feel phenomenally supple and sensual. Nonetheless, the final verdict is still out on any unpleasant development of post-fornication fungus.
